Education
Education in England follows a National Curriculum that must be followed at each Key Stage and covers the 3-18 age range. Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland have their own curricula. This section is concerned with the final stage in what is often known as Secondary Education. Studying provides a summary of what is studied in each country, while Resources provides some online tools to support you is developing your skills.
Key Stage 3
Key Stage 3 is the three years of secondary education in maintained schools, covering the 11-14 age range. At the end of this stage students will be selecting the subjects they wish to study in more detail during Key Stage 4 in preparation for the GCSE examination.
GCSEs
Key Stage 4 is the two years of secondary education leading to the GCSE examination, covering up to the age of 16. This is the last two years of secondary school.
College
Key Stage 5 is the two years covering up to the age of 18 where students study more challenging courses in specific subjects leading to the GCE Advanced Level examination or equivalent. This may take place in the original school or it may be in a specialist college.
