Universities love it when you start your personal statement with a fancy, intelligent quote don’t they? Err actually no. I hate to break it to you everyone but they don’t. They really don’t. They spend their lives telling students not to waste characters on pointless quotes. They could not care less about Churchill’s opinion; they want to hear yours. It’s an easy trap to fall into though, I know I did. So if you really feel the need to include the words of others, here is a guide to those you should really avoid…

The OVERLY pretentious one:

CAQuote

The generic song lyric:

BeatlesQuote

The one from popular culture:

HIMYMQuote

The overused one:

Starsquote

And finally never ever ever quote yourself!!

(you will just end up looking like a moron)
