Middlesex University
Middlesex University, based in Hendon, north west London takes its name from the county it borders. Middlesex can trace its history back to the 19th century, yet was not formally organised as a teaching institution until 1973. In 2012, the university re-structured its academic schools to align them more closely with the needs of industry.
In Hendon students have access to a wealth of restaurants and shops catering to all tastes and budgets, including Halal and Kosher options, while the bright lights of London are a fifteen-minute journey by tube.

University Environment
Middlesex is based in Hendon, a few stops on the Northern Line from the centre of London. At the heart of its campus is the historic College building, centred around an expansive courtyard where students and staff meet, while there are many other areas to socialise in exhibition spaces, cafes and beautiful parkland.
In recent years, the University has invested more than £200 million to transform it into one of London's biggest universities. A brand-new library, state-of-the-art biomedical and technology labs, dedicated classrooms and lecture theatres for business and law, high-end TV production studios and the best art and design workshop spaces are just some of the facilities that Middlesex students have available to them.
Since 2004, the university has also been operating an overseas campus in Dubai and opened another one in Mauritius in October 2009. In September 2013, Middlesex opened its third international campus in Malta.
History
The University of Middlesex has grown out of merger between a number different schools and colleges in North London. The oldest and perhaps the most prominent was the Hornsey College of Art, founded in 1882, whilst other institutions include Ponders End Technical Institute (founded in 1901) and Hendon Technical Institute (founded in 1939). All three were amalgamated to form Middlesex Polytechnic in January 1973.
Before becoming a university in 1992, Middlesex expanded further by adding three more colleges in north London however since 2000, the University has undergone a major restructuring programme, which, specifically, translated into a total image rebrand in 2003, the closure of a number of campuses over 2005–2012 and the consolidation of the University's activities on a large campuses in north London.

The 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF) classed 58% of Middlesex's research as 'world-leading' or 'internationally excellent' making it the best modern university in London for research power. It came in the top 20 across all all creative industries research disciplines submitted and 4th un the UK for Social Work and Social Policy.

Middlesex University offers a wide range of scholarships for students and bursaries for those with a household income of less that £25,000. Please see the website for more details.
The Middlesex Sport Scholarship Scheme is available for talented sports performers who are keen to continue their sporting endeavours and compete for the University. There are three levels of scholarship with financial support ranging from £200 to £1,000 in any academic year.

Learning Facilities
The Sheppard Library houses an enormous collection of hard copy resources, with 30,000 full text journals are available online. There are also contains plenty of silent and group study spaces for students to use both in the Sheppard Library and the Williams building.
Middlesex Librarians and IT specialists are available to provide expert advice on choosing the right resources or software, learning how to use it, and evaluating search results. Middlesex also offer training sessions and one-to-one support throughout the year on using the resources and on understanding referencing and plagiarism, whilst the Academic Writing Team can help you develop your writing, reading and communication skills generally, for life at university and beyond. If you've any issues with maths, numeracy and statistics during your time at University the Numeracy Support service can help.
Middlesex is continually updating their IT facilities, to ensure that students have the best and most up-to-date computers and software available to them. Middlesex students have access to hundreds of PCs and Macs on-campus, as well as open free WiFi in all areas of the campus so that students can work on personal computers and mobile devices. Printing and photocopying is free for university work, and is supported by specialist IT staff who can provide guidance and training on computer and software use, as well as web support to help resolve any queries students may have.
The University also boasts specialists facilities including: 3D workshops, photographic studios, fashion and textile workshops, print rooms, fine art studios and interior studios for those studying art and design; a financial markets lab where business students can use Bloomberg and Datastream information platforms to receive real-time information about financial markets around the world; high-tech nursing and midwifery simulation suites; a dance theatre and studios, music studios, a TV studio and gallery complex, digital editing suites, a motion capture studio, digital media labs, a newsroom and a radio studio for media and performing arts students; labs for science and technology students such as robotics, mass spectrometry, cell and tissue culture, and bioengineering and medical engineering; and a specialist chambers in Hendon Town Hall which can hold up to 150 and is the perfect place to hold moots.
Sports Facilities
The Fitness Pod houses a cardio room as well as a specialised strength and conditioning suite, which has the latest Olympic lifting equipment and new functional training machines to provide endless exercise options suitable for every level of fitness.
A complementary range of therapies and treatments are available to students, including massage, and beauty treatments, as well as personal training, leisure classes and more. Throughout the week there are a range of exercise classes available including yoga, Pilates, dance aerobics and Zumba.
Students' Union
Students' Union
The Students' Union (MDXSU) organises activities, initiatives and events for students throughout the year, while their advice team provides support and advice on a range of academic issues. MDXSU also oversees Middlesex societies and student media - the radio, magazine, TV station and online blog - helping students pursue new interests and establishing a vibrant social life on campus. Middlesex offers a huge range of societies, covering everything from religions and sport, to hobbies and academics. Most societies are run by students through Middlesex Students' Union.
Last year, the student-led group Raise and Give (RAG) volunteered their time to raise over £35,000 for local and national charities. The Middlesex University Wellbeing Foundation works alongside community groups and businesses to provide a wide range of placement and volunteering opportunities for students, in four key areas; education, enterprise development, coaching and volunteering, international development.
Middlesex students enjoy a wide variety of excellent food and drink options withThe Forum Restaurant, always a hive of student activity, comprising of four food outlets within an open-plan dining area; great for meeting friends for a quick bite. There are also several cafes to choose from, in the main quadrangle, the Grove Building and the Library, all offering cheap food and drinks.

Middlesex University fosters an open, tolerant and peaceful environment in which to work and study. They encourage students to connect with their faith while at university, and are happy to help with any facilities they need to do so. Middlesex University have a prayer room on campus, and there is wide a range of places of religious worship in the surrounding area of multicultural North London. Middlesex has a total of five Christian-based student societies, run by students through the Middlesex University Students' Union. There are two Islamic societies, which represent Muslim students on campus and provide a prayer room that is open throughout the day. The Jewish Society, also run by students through the Union, aims to allow students to engage with Jewish social and learning events while at university.
Health & Wellbeing
Middlesex University provides a free confidential counselling service available to help students overcome any challenges they might face while studying. These challenges may include personal, practical, academic, or financial issues, and it is their goal to provide students with the information and advice they need help to them through these times. Middlesex University’s student support services offer one-to-one counselling sessions, group workshops, and consultation and referral services.
The University aims to provide an inclusive teaching and learning environment which caters for all students, including students with hearing loss, mobility difficulties, mental health problems, Asperger's Syndrome, restricted use of upper limbs, specific learning difficulty, and visual impairment. Their Disability and Dyslexia service offer advice on course-related adjustments, arrange special provision during exams, liase with tutors and funding authorities and undertake assessments for students applying for the Disabled Students' Allowance.

MDX Employability Support offers one-to-one tailored support to help with every aspect of employability including creating a compelling CV, job searching, completing a job application form and preparing for an interview as well as setting-up, starting and growing a business. They also offer a range of online Employability Assessments through which students, graduates and alumni can measure their employability skills, consider how engaged they are with their employability and assess their readiness to secure a graduate job.

They've accommodation ranging from luxurious en-suite studios to simple dormitory-style rooms. All are a short walk or bus ride away with their newest site in Wembley, next to the world-famous Wembley Stadium and with transport links to campus and central London giving students the opportunity to live in a thriving community. English Language Requirements
Middlesex University accepts a range of English tests, such as IELTS, which students applying must have taken in the last two years. The University ask for a minimum of 6.0 (with minimum 5.5 in all components) in the IELTS, however in some courses the English language requirements might be higher.
International Support
Each year over 8,000 students from outside the UK choose to study at Middlesex University London. The University's international student orientation programme helps international students settle into university life, meet new friends and become familiar with all aspects of studying and living in London. The student orientation programme includes a Heathrow Airport meet and greet, information sessions, a free traditional Fish 'n Chip lunch, and social events organised by the Students' Union.
The Learning Enhancement Team runs free workshops and one-to-one tutorials in academic writing, English language, and communication so you can continue to improve your English skills while you study.
